In 2006, Ingenium was commissioned by UZ Leuven to develop an energy plan for all of the buildings located on the Gasthuisberg site and managed by UZ Leuven.

This energy plan was updated every four years. The preparation of this energy plan and its four-yearly update are mandatory because UZ Leuven’s Gasthuisberg campus is an energy-intensive site (current definition: final annual energy consumption greater than 0.1 PJ).

In 2006, Ingenium was commissioned by UZ Leuven to develop an energy plan for all buildings on the Gasthuisberg site managed by UZ Leuven. The energy plan was developed in accordance with the Energy Plan Decree and was certified as compliant by the VEKA (Flemish Energy and Climate Agency). It includes a comprehensive study and detailed studies of the various buildings and HVAC and electrical systems.

Every four years (2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), Ingenium successfully updated the energy plan, and VEKA certified it as compliant. Each of these updates included a report on the changes made to all buildings and systems since the previous update, a detailed analysis of energy consumption and a comparison with previous updates to the energy plan, an update on all measures from previous energy plans that had not been implemented, and technical and financial calculations for various new energy-saving measures.

Cost-effective measures must be implemented by the hospital on a mandatory basis.

A selection of the measures analyzed over the years: building envelope measures, control system optimizations, lighting measures (relighting, control systems, etc.), steam system optimizations, optimization of cooling and heating systems, heat pump strategies, renovation strategies for various HVAC systems, integration of renewable energy, etc.
