Government

Government

The public sector plays a crucial role in making our building heritage climate-neutral by 2050. In addition to transitioning its own patrimony, the government also has a facilitating and guiding responsibility.

Healthcare facilities such as hospitals, residential care centers or psychiatric facilities, buildings for education (from kindergarten to university), government buildings (from local to European) and utilities, they all belong to the public sector. They are usually large buildings with significant energy demand. Making that demand sustainable can make a significant difference in the energy transition.

For over 50 years, Ingenium has been realizing projects in the public sector. As a result, we have fully mastered public procurement legislation and the specific way of working in the sector. Our services have evolved and expanded over time. Today, for example, projects are often tackled on a cross-building basis, including via heat networks and smart grids. In addition to concrete new construction and renovation assignments, we also advise cities and municipalities on how climate neutrality can become a reality. And at the Flemish and federal levels, we advise policies on climate measures and energy efficiency.

We are convinced that the public sector must play a leading role in the energy transition. It is driven by increasingly stringent legislation that our buildings have become more energy efficient over the past 15 years. By stimulating and facilitating, the government has ensured that new technologies that were considered (often too) expensive at their launch have today become standard and affordable. The road is still long and there is no time to lose. Ingenium therefore wants to be the reliable expert advisor for the government in this energy transition

Research into sustainable heat sources gives City of Bruges the insight to take steps toward a climate-neutral city in 2050

The Bruges Climate Plan 2030, put together with experts and local associations and entrepreneurs, was approved by the College and City Council in February 2022. The climate plan aims to emit at least 49% less CO2 by 2030. This as an intermediate step toward becoming a climate-neutral city by 2050.
