Framework contract UZ Brussel
In 2018, UZ Brussel looked for a partner to assist them in part of the large number of projects underway at the hospital in the field of techniques.
In these projects, the various techniques (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gases) were studied by Ingenium.
Ingenium was responsible for feasibility studies, preparation of competition documents, supervision of the competition and follow-up during the construction and commissioning phases.
Some of the projects Ingenium has worked on:
- Cooling plant for radiopharmacy
- Optimization production of sanitary hot for the hospitalization building
- Cooling plant for the hospitalization building
- Redesign of the genetics lab
- Ventilation of an L3 lab
- Automation Lab Tielemans
- Climatization bunkers
- Furnishing a bunker for a Linac MR
- Establishment of gastrology - endoscopy
- Renovation of nursing unit for CRG
The integral execution was done expertly and professionally with an eye for the client's interests.
We’ll take a closer look at some of the projects:
Labo Thielemans:
At UZ Brussel, in the Tielemans building, laboratory activities are being further centralized and automated. The project is being carried out in several phases, ensuring that the lab’s services remain available to the hospital at all times. The project includes the setup and relocation of the chromatography platform, the microbiology lab, and the hematology lab. The lab’s analytical activities have been integrated into a fully automated system in which samples undergo the various tests without further human intervention.
Gastrointestinal endoscopy:
A new gastroenterology and endoscopy department is being built on the ground floor of the inpatient building. In the first phase, various rooms will be fitted out, including consultation rooms, a waiting area, a recovery room, and administrative offices. During this phase, the central utilities were also installed to allow for the integration of a subsequent phase featuring additional rooms, consultation rooms, offices, and areas for washing and disinfecting the endoscopes. Several ISO8 rooms are being provided. This work is taking place in an area of an inpatient ward that remained in service during construction.
Radiopharmacy cooling:
In connection with the renovation and expansion of the radiology department, the cooling system will be relocated, expanded, and optimized. A feasibility study examined various scenarios. This begins with an analysis of the required peak capacity and the expected consumption profile. Scenarios are evaluated based on budgetary, acoustic, redundancy, and reserve requirements. The various scenarios are assessed based on total lifetime cost, as well as energy and environmental aspects. Based on the study, a concept is developed in which comfort cooling is supplied with 6°C water and 12°C water is distributed for cooling medical equipment. The existing air-cooled chiller is supplemented with a high-efficiency, variable-frequency air-cooled chiller. The system is designed such that the return water from the chiller cooling is cooled using an adiabatic dry cooler, which provides partial or full free cooling depending on the outdoor temperature.
Climate control in the radiation therapy treatment rooms:
The air handling units in the 5 silos will be replaced in phases with one pre-treatment unit and 5 post-treatment units. Thanks to a detailed phased plan, the silos can be switched over one by one.
Renovation of the nursing ward for the CRG:
Ingenium is overseeing the renovation of a nursing ward in a building that must remain operational. The nursing ward includes patient rooms, consultation rooms, ultrasound rooms, examination rooms, and all associated support facilities.
Renovation of the genetics lab:
This laboratory is located in the inpatient building. The work will be carried out in five phases, during which a large part of the laboratory will remain fully operational.
Maintenance contract for the HVAC system:
In addition to these projects, Ingenium is also drawing up a maintenance contract for UZ Brussel’s HVAC system, tailored to UZ Brussel’s specific processes.
Various technical projects:
Varioustechnical projects, such as the renovation of cooling plants or the optimization of domestic hot water production.
