Z.org KU Leuven vzw is repurposing the monastery site in Lubbeek as a psychiatric care facility (PVT) with approximately 75 beds.

On Dorpsstraat, which slopes steeply downward behind the church and cemetery, the corner of the monastery has long defined the village’s skyline. The new residential development will be designed to preserve as much of the existing structure as possible. The monastery will not be replaced, but it will take on a new role following a thorough transformation.

Six “monastery buildings” (“novitiate,” chapel, main monastery and corner wing, “motherhouse,” and technical school) will become five PVT houses, plus a shared administrative building, and a converted chapel for communal use. The focus on sustainable and digital construction was achieved through the addition of a BTES for heating and cooling, a fully low-temperature system, and a PV installation.

During the design phase, Ingenium guided the client in drafting a set of requirements for smart healthcare systems and translated this solution into technical specifications. Ingenium assisted WIT Architects with the full scope of technical consulting for the building. Furthermore, during the preliminary phase, Ingenium provided energy consulting at the master plan level for the monastery site (RVT, service center, etc.).
