IVAGO valorization waste heat general
The City of Ghent investigated how to make better use of IVAGO's waste heat and examined various valorization options for the waste stream.
Ingenium worked with Ramboll and UGent to explore these possibilities. The first phase looked at alternatives for residual waste valorization, with Ramboll's expertise and UGent's insights. In the second phase, the focus was on improving the incinerator and extending the heat network to surrounding buildings and industry.
The study led to a concrete plan for a new heat network route, potentially offering connections for De Sterre (UGent), Woningent, some schools and UZGent, among others. The option for steam supply to local companies was also considered.
Based on these insights, a feasibility study is being conducted for waste heat valorization through a heat network. The focus is on companies near IVAGO that use steam, which fits well with the available waste heat from the incinerator. Ingenium further refined the technical design of the steam and heat network, including a profitability exercise and several scenarios to determine the most advantageous approach.

In a follow-up process, Ingenium supported the City of Ghent in the search for a new private partner for IVAGO. To this end, Ingenium worked together with Rebel (financial advice), DLA Piper (legal advice) and Ramboll (incinerator expertise).
