Blue Gate Antwerp - Feasibility study

Blue Gate Antwerp is a prestigious reconversion project that aims to realize an energy-positive business park south of Antwerp. Ingenium investigates the feasibility of a sustainable strategy based on energy needs and develops a global vision for realization. The use of residual heat and waste streams was investigated in this study.

Where petroleum ships once docked, now all that remains is a polluted and abandoned 73-hectare industrial site on the former Petroleum South. However, the site has enormous potential due to its unique location: close to the city center and easily accessible by all forms of transport. Blue Gate Antwerp is rehabilitating the site into an energy-positive business park, with eco-effectiveness as its core philosophy. The site will feature a new quay with logistics, high-quality production, research and development and an important green corridor. Commissioned by the City of Antwerp, Ingenium is investigating the feasibility of various sustainable strategies for the project area and compiling them into a global vision. The following energy options, among others, are being investigated: wind turbines, biomass, waste heat and residual energy recovery, energy storage, etc. Mobility via electric cars, H2 and biogas as fuel will also be evaluated. Indeed, Blue Gate Antwerp wishes to be a demonstration project for sustainable mobility. The study is commissioned by and in close cooperation with the Flemish Environmental Holding / Participatie Maatschappij Vlaanderen and the City of Antwerp.
