2XL HOOGBOUW
Even after the acquisition of 2XL by ECS, European Containers continues to expand in Zeebrugge. A fully automated high-rise warehouse with rail infrastructure that will operate completely fossil-free is currently rising along Lancelot Blondeellaan.
2XL previously built a high-rise warehouse along N31 - Baron De Maerelaan, on the opposite side of the railroad bundle that lies between the old and new sites. The new warehouse is the same height as the existing one - 40.6 meters - but with an area of 14,250 m2 and 76,000 pallet spaces twice as large. Adjacent is a low-rise warehouse that includes loading and unloading facilities and a picking area and is being further expanded. The train loading and unloading track will be extended so that the volume of rail freight handled can be increased fivefold. The old office on the site will be demolished and rebuilt.
GASLESS
Exceptionally for this type of industrial project, the existing gas connection was removed and the site will therefore operate completely gas-free. The office will be heated entirely electrically - with an air-to-air heat pump - and, because of the extensive insulation of the building envelope, also cooled.
The warehouse itself is not heated or cooled. The walls and roof are very well insulated, and because of the base temperature of the products brought in, the space always remains frost-free. Since no person works in the high bay warehouse, there is also no minimum temperature required as a function of sufficient working comfort.
FAST RELEASE IN CASE OF FIRE
Another striking feature of this project is the fact that 10,000 sprinklers are provided in the lower buildings and 20,000 high-flow, quick response (ESFR) sprinklers are provided in the high-rise warehouse, which are attached to the roof and to 3 layers of storage racks. Thus, should a fire occur, it is quickly detected and locally extinguished with plenty of water so that the fire is quickly extinguished.
OFF GRID IN CASE OF POWER PANSES
In order to ensure continuity of operations, a comfort generator has been installed. In the event of a breakdown of the public electricity grid, this will allow the entire ECS site on Avenue Lancelot Blondeell to continue to operate 'off grid'.
