UGent renovated part of its buildings located on Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat. Today, the building is known as Technicum.

This assignment includes the following:

• Complete Renovation of Block I
• Complete renovation of Block II, except for the Soete classroom (level 080) and the Cloquet auditorium (level 070)

Essentially, the building houses the following functions:

• A library and computer hub
• The Departments of Political and Social Sciences
• Classrooms, seminar rooms
• Audiovisual Center
• Administration (Central Services)

Ingenium defined the technical concept in the preliminary design phase, developed a complete bid document, and is assisting the client in overseeing the construction site. The project is connected to the existing district heating network operated by SPE - Luminus, which previously provided heating for the buildings. The majority of the heat emitters are radiators, which are thoughtfully planned with respect for the building’s heritage value. The building is intensively ventilated, with the air flow regulated on a demand-based system. The air handling units are also equipped with heat recovery wheels to recover heat from the exhaust air for preheating the fresh air.

The building’s primary energy consumption has been reduced by more than 50% compared to the situation prior to the renovation, thanks to the implementation of the energy-saving techniques mentioned above.
