SvM - Schools Kortrijk 2nd and 3rd grade
As part of the “Schools of Tomorrow” program, two school projects are being carried out on the Sint-Amandscollege campus at Diksmuidekaai 2. The program includes a new building for the 2nd stage and a combination of renovation and new construction for the 3rd stage, with the renovation of the neo-Gothic banquet hall—which is being converted into a dining hall—serving as the centerpiece. The entire project has been developed using a Design & Build concept, which is typical of Schools of Tomorrow projects.

The upper secondary school will be housed in a completely new building located on Burgemeester Vercruysselaan, which will include a sports hall and three classroom wings. These wings will house a variety of rooms, such as computer labs, science labs, and more. The central space of the upper secondary school building is the large neo-Gothic banquet hall, which has been renovated into a cafeteria with an attached kitchen. On both sides of the renovated section, two new wings are planned, containing classrooms for upper secondary students, a study hall, a media center, and a gymnasium.
The renovation of this neo-Gothic, historic, third-degree-listed building involves the remodeling of a structure included on the architectural heritage inventory. The facade and roof structure had to be preserved in light of the building’s heritage value, and the interior underwent a complete and energy-efficient renovation, resulting in an impressive dining hall. Through simulations, significant attention was paid to creating an optimal building envelope, which, for example, made it possible to avoid active cooling and minimize energy consumption as much as possible. The integration of heat pumps and PV panels further enhances the buildings’ sustainability. In conjunction with these projects, as part of a master plan study, the entire utility network on campus was redesigned to provide a robust infrastructure capable of supplying energy to future projects as well. The various new construction sections achieve an EPB score of approximately K35-E67.
