New Naval School Antwerp

The Antwerp Higher Maritime School has been training the best maritime officers for decades. The existing building is becoming too small for today's needs. It will therefore be renovated and supplemented with a new building. Ingenium supervises this project in the field of techniques and integral sustainability.

With the equalization of higher studies (Bachelor-Master programs) internationally, more foreign students are also inclined to come to Antwerp's renowned HZS. Although the current building has a monumental character, it cannot possibly fill the needs. It is therefore being renovated and complemented by a new building.

For the existing building aNNo architects is at the helm, for the new building it is Atelier Kempe Thill. The stability is done by BAS. In both buildings there is a strong focus on the aesthetic integration of techniques (under construction).

Ingenium is supervising this process in terms of techniques and integral sustainability. We want to preserve the monumental character of the existing building as much as possible. The interventions must therefore be carried out with respect. Let that be one of Ingenium's core values.

In terms of technology, a BTES with 25 vertical boreholes is planned. This will be responsible, among other things, for recovering the heat since many rooms develop heat throughout the year (e.g. simulator rooms, data rooms, etc.). In addition, the entire roof will be covered with a photovoltaic installation.
