Brepol's Defossilization
Ingenium studied how Brepols can make its production halls fossil-free.
Ingenium conducted a study on the possibilities for defossilization of Brepols' energy supply. The goal was to analyze different scenarios that contribute to a more sustainable energy solution with a focus on optimizing HVAC installations and reducing CO2 emissions.
Works performed by Ingenium:
1. Scenario analysis:
* Examination of six selected scenarios, including air-to-air heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps (with and without gas boilers), new natural gas boilers, heat recovery on extraction air and the use of destratifiers
* Analysis of rejected measures such as BEO fields, ATES-systems, biomass and other technologies.
2. Technical and financial evaluation:
* Calculation of CAPEX (investment cost) and OPEX (operating cost) for each scenario
* Calculation of payback period (TVT), with and without impact of ETS 2.0
3. Energy - and CO2 impact:
* Analysis of CO2 emissions and energy savings for different scenarios.
* Quantifying savings in gas consumption and energy costs.
4. Phasing and forward planning:
* Propose phased implementation of scenarios.
* Identification of reinvestments and expected end-of-life of components
5. Customized advice:
* Drafting a plan of action focused on the specific needs and future vision of Brepols.
* Collaborate with suppliers for technical details and investment discussions.
Project Outcome:
Ingenium's efforts provided a comprehensive technical and economic evaluation of the most appropriate defossilization strategies for Brepols. This enabled Brepols to make informed choices based on concrete data and a clear roadmap for sustainable energy supply.
