Commissioned by the Flemish Government, with support from Buildwise, Ingenium has been working to provide advice on the practical integration of the smart buildings aspect into the GRO Sustainability Meter.

Using a workshop approach, the contours of a new criterion have been established in the GRO, based on the Smart Readiness Indicator SRI). The SRI is a measurement tool for smart buildings developed by a consortium led by VITO on behalf of the European Commission. It is based on the EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive), which also forms the basis for the EPB/EPC tool.

In close consultation with sustainability experts from the Flemish Government, the standard structure has been adapted and simplified to create an accessible and workable criterion for the GRO, with the aim of stimulating the market. Drawing on our expertise in sustainability, smart buildings, and the SRI, we jointly developed a modified indicator that meets the specific objectives of the Flemish government. This new criterion will be integrated into the GRO update.
