In addition to the existing Rectorate and De Vooruit, this building of approximately 12,000 m² will house offices and meeting facilities for student-related services. There will also be 1 large auditorium of 1,000 seats. A 30-ton mobile lifting wall allows this space to be divided into 2 smaller auditoriums. Ingenium was responsible for the design of these 2 very specific and unique elements. In addition, Ingenium also designed all technical systems, ranging from HVAC to electrical systems, sanitary facilities, elevators and parking ventilation. Especially for the HVAC systems, much attention was paid to rational energy use. The office part of the building is ventilated and cooled via opening windows that can be modulatively controlled. Through this natural ventilation and nighttime flushing, comfort in the building can be ensured almost without any energy consumption. The control of this system is based on many parameters, including indoor and outdoor temperature, air quality, wind speed and direction, etc. Adiabatic cooling is provided in the auditoriums, so that here too a pleasant comfort can be achieved without excessive energy consumption.
