Restoration Conservatory of Brussels
The building complex of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels still plays a prominent role in national musical life today, thanks in part to its magnificent concert hall and unique music library. The building dates from 1876 and is in dire need of refurbishment.
The architectural heritage is being restored and adapted to contemporary comfort. To accommodate the increasing number of students, an expansion with a new building is necessary. The new building will house performing master classes, two new concert halls and an underground preservation depot. In a harmonious whole, the design guarantees a sustainable future for both Conservatories.
Ingenium was pleased to share its expertise to give this building back the look it deserves. For this, we worked with FVWW, A2RC and Origin as architects and Bureau Ney for stability. Obviously, this required an integrated approach. After all, we wanted to preserve the historic character of the building as much as possible. Specific problems therefore required a specific approach. For example, the air conditioning of the concert hall was worked out in great detail in order to guarantee the comfort of the visitor on the one hand, but on the other hand to preserve the monumental character of the hall. A fantastic challenge to which we were happy to contribute. Only in this way did the conservatory regain its original grandeur.
