Paleisstraat Fire Station, Antwerp
General description
This energy audit supports the renovation and repurposing of the historic fire station on Paleisstraat in Antwerp, an architectural complex dating from 1908–1911. The building consists of several wings grouped around a central courtyard. The audit aims to improve the building’s energy efficiency while preserving its heritage value and implementing efficient heating and cooling systems.
Role of Ingenium
Ingenium served as the energy consultant in collaboration with aNNo architects. Ingenium was responsible for developing a detailed energy model, evaluating various sustainability strategies, and integrating ventilation planning. In addition, Ingenium conducted a thorough risk analysis to assess the potential consequences of different insulation choices.
Final result
The audit resulted in a shortlist of technically feasible and sustainable solutions for heating and cooling, compiled using a systematic longlist/shortlist approach. In addition, a detailed report was delivered that included risk analyses, enabling the client to make informed decisions regarding sustainability measures with minimal impact on the heritage character of the barracks.
