In addition to the design contract for the provincial sports and recreation center, Ingenium was also responsible for drafting the maintenance and energy performance contract for De Nekker in Mechelen.

The provincial sports and recreation center De Nekker expanded its facilities in 2013 with a new indoor swimming pool and is planning to renovate and expand the sports hall. With this expansion, the Province of Antwerp aims to meet the need for infrastructure. Schools, in particular, had been requesting a location for school swimming lessons in the Mechelen region. In addition to the new swimming pool, the existing food and beverage facilities and the indoor playground were expanded and renovated at the same time.

Ingenium was responsible for the design of all technical systems. Key aspects here include, in particular, ventilation and water treatment. A major challenge in this regard is minimizing energy and water consumption. Various energy-saving measures have been integrated into the design: heat pumps utilizing exhaust air from the swimming pool, heat pumps utilizing wastewater from the swimming pool and showers, a solar roof, and a significant reduction in make-up water through the use of best available techniques (BAT). In addition, Ingenium prepared the EPB report and conducted the feasibility study on alternative energy sources.

In addition to the design contract, Ingenium was also responsible for compiling the maintenance manual for the De Nekker sports center in Mechelen. The maintenance manual specifically covers the maintenance of the HVAC and water treatment systems for the existing sports hall and the expansion to include the new sports hall during the warranty period for the new systems. Ingenium also monitors the maintenance work performed. The swimming pool and sports hall offer additional opportunities for savings, on the one hand through additional energy-saving investments (which were postponed) and on the other hand through active energy management.

Ingenium, in collaboration with Rebelgroup, Field Fisher Waterhouse, and Freemind, is overseeing the drafting of a maintenance and energy performance contract for the swimming pool and sports hall.  A preliminary study examined the possibility of energy supply and exchange between existing or new buildings on the De Nekker site or in the immediate vicinity (including the Nekkerhallen, Utopia, and the ice rink, among others).
