KULeuven agricultural institute - Carousel phase 2
The "Carousel Agriculture" project involves redesigning much of the building's laboratories and offices.
These renovations were done in phases over the period 2017-2020. The technical installations of the areas to be remodeled were largely renewed. The Agricultural Institute was built in 1937 near Cardinal Mercier Avenue in the southern part of Arenberg Park in Heverlee, which is protected as a village site. The Agricultural Institute has been protected as a monument since 2010. The building serves as a research and teaching building for KU Leuven for the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Department of Microbial and Molecular Systems and the Department of Biosystems.
Ingenium's assignment consisted of concept definition, technical design and follow-up of phases 2 through 7. Project phase 2 includes 1050 m² laboratories (classifications L1/C1/C2/C3) and 350 m² offices. In addition to furnishing labs and offices, the basic installation for the ventilation of the entire east wing was already completed in this phase. This allows for heat recovery on the extraction air and thus drastically reduces the building's energy consumption. A new cooling plant and an expansion of the gas distribution stations were also already included in this phase.
