To address the acute school shortage in Antwerp, a new school was built near Park Spoor Noord on Children and Youth Campus Hardenvoort.

A kindergarten section, an elementary school and a secondary school were provided. The school can accommodate about 600 pupils. The building and installations were designed in such a way that the classrooms could be used flexibly and that broad use was possible. This required a thorough approach to the technical installations in consultation with the future users.

Ingenium was therefore able to put its expertise in this area to the best possible use here. The school was built according to the Passive House standard. The team of Ingenium consultancy Energy took care of the guidance, so that the right choices were made to meet the PHPP standards. Simulations of the thermal comfort by the Ingenium Simulation Studio helped optimize the building and an integrated approach of architecture and technical installations. Among other things, this approach resulted in controlled night ventilation to maintain comfort temperatures in the classrooms. The results during the hot summers of 2017 and 2018 confirm that we made the right choices.
