AGSO - Stedelijk Lyceum Linkeroever
The lyceum left bank of the Antwerp municipal education system was in need of expansion.
The assignment involved the demolition and expansion of part of the current Stedelijk Lyceum on the Left Bank. The great challenge was to integrate new sustainable techniques into this extension as invisibly as possible.
It is a design that we succeeded in miraculously through intensive consultation between our engineers and the architects. Such consultation is only possible if you listen carefully to each other and try to accommodate each other's concerns as much as possible.
Three solutions stand out:
- The integration of a new air group for the school: for this purpose, a new technical room was created in an existing volume that was only half-used, namely the storage room of the existing gymnasium.
- The ventilation of the classrooms: fresh air is brought into the classrooms through convector niches. As a result, the air always flows sufficiently preheated into the room. Extraction does not take place in the classrooms themselves, but via the corridor. For this purpose, an acoustic flow-through grille is provided between the classroom and the corridor. Extraction in the corridor takes place centrally. Advantage: much less channel turnover in classrooms and corridors.
- Integration of the heat pump: it is installed invisibly in a patio. Moreover, it is coupled in such a way that it can be switched on with maximum priority.
First and foremost, Ingenium worked out an energy concept using dynamic simulations. Then the design of the systems was also done with the application of an air/water heat pump, low temperature heating, PV installation and application of smart energy monitoring, among others.
