De Nekker Swimming Pool
The recreation center De Nekker was expanded with a swimming pool. Ingenium made the studies of all technical systems, emphasizing efficient use of energy and water.
The provincial sports and recreation center De Nekker expanded its facilities in 2013 with a new indoor swimming pool and plans the renewal and expansion of the sports hall. With this expansion, the Province of Antwerp wishes to meet the need for infrastructure. Especially from schools came the demand for a location for school swimming in the Mechelen region. Besides the new swimming pool, the existing catering facilities and indoor playground were simultaneously expanded and adapted. Ingenium was responsible for the studies of all technical systems. Important aspects here are mainly the ventilation and water treatment. An important challenge here is to limit energy consumption and water consumption.
Various energy-saving applications were integrated into the design: heat pumps on the extraction air of the pool, heat pumps on the waste water from the pool and showers, energy roof, and far-reaching reduction of make-up water by applying best available techniques (BAT). In addition, Ingenium also performed the EPB reporting and the alternative energy feasibility study. Besides the design assignment, Ingenium was also charged with drawing up the maintenance file for the De Nekker Sports Center in Mechelen. The maintenance file specifically comprises the maintenance of the HVAC and water treatment system of the existing sports hall and the extension with the sports hall during the guarantee period of the new systems. Ingenium also monitors the maintenance provided. The swimming pool and sports hall still offer additional savings potential, on the one hand through additional energy-saving investments (which were postponed) and on the other hand through active energy management. Together with Rebelgroup, Field Fisher Waterhouse and Freemind, Ingenium is supervising the drawing up of a maintenance and energy performance contract for the swimming pool and the sports hall. A preliminary study investigated the possibility of energy supply and exchange between existing or new buildings on the De Nekker site or in the vicinity (including Nekkerhallen, Utopia, skating rink...).
