To achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2050, it is important that companies also use energy sparingly. A number of instruments have been developed for this purpose, depending on the size, energy consumption, etc. of the companies. Companies can also appeal to various financial concessions. Small, medium-sized and large companies alike can take many measures to improve their energy efficiency.
With the entry into force of the new (strengthened) regulations for companies as of 23/12/2022, there may be ambiguity as to which provisions your establishment of your company must comply with. Through this link you will find some situations for those companies that already comply with the current regulations and will be subject to the new regulations as of 23/12/2022 and what is expected of these companies.
Energy-intensive establishments
Energy-intensive (final energy use > 0.1 PJ) business establishments must have a conforming declared energy plan. In addition, under certain conditions, energy-intensive business establishments must attach an energy study to their environmental permit application. Parallel to these regulations, there is also the possibility for energy-intensive establishments of companies to join the voluntary energy policy agreements (EBOs) of the Flemish government. More on this can be found here.
Non-energy intensive sites
Significant energy savings can still be achieved even at non-energy-intensive business establishments. Whereas in the past the emphasis was on raising awareness and making the target group energy-conscious, the strengthened legislation will broaden the focus to the effective implementation of energy-saving measures.
