Hospital Oost-Limburg Genk - R mini
For ZOL Genk, we collaborated on the design of a multifunctional new building of 5200 m2 in which a general practitioners' post, rehabilitation, consultation rooms and offices are provided, in accordance with the regulations of the VIPA.
Special attention was paid, from the VIPA sustainable building criteria, to the various possible sustainable interventions. The building was designed to be compact, which is a basic requirement for energy efficiency. Then, through building physics simulations, an optimal building form was sought: sufficient daylight penetration, solid insulation, and limitation of solar penetration. After all, the building envelope is crucial in the design of a sustainable building. Furthermore, maximum use was made of 'state of the art' sustainable techniques, with maximum use being made of energy recuperation (heat recovery in air groups, ...), energy efficiency (LED, frequency control, ...), etc....
The classrooms are cooled and heated with fan coil units. Heat and cold is generated by a cold heat storage system (ATES). This expansion of the technical installations, fits into the energy master plan we drew up with a view to making the entire campus more sustainable.
Ingenium was responsible for the feasibility study, design of the technical systems (including medical gases), EPB and site follow-up of all techniques (electricity, HVAC, sanitary facilities, medical gases, elevators and ATES) in this building. This building was designed so that all spaces can be used flexibly. This means that only a minimum of works are required to redeploy spaces. This is made possible by intelligently implanting technical spaces and ducts.
Transparent communication between the various parties was the key to success here. Ingenium strictly monitored the budget and ensured a close follow-up of the planning, always providing sufficient space for checking and testing the installed systems. This is important to guarantee reliability and comfort for the patient and user.
