UZ Gent - renovation PAC/MAC

This study assignment includes all the techniques for the conversion of 5B2 for a new Pre-operative Anesthesia Consultation unit (PAC) and a Monitored Anesthesia Care unit (MAC) as an extension of the operating theater of Ghent University Hospital.

For the expansion of the operating complex, Ghent University Hospital is explicitly betting on BIM. The cooperation between architect, engineering firm and contractors must also generate added value in the operational phase after the construction process. During the renovation of Block B, a new unit for preoperative anesthesia consultation (PAC) and a monitored anesthesia care unit (MAC) will be added to the OR. Revit was chosen as the modeling software in the design process.

UZ Gent is asking all construction partners to use the same software in the execution and work together on a BIM platform. Once the contractors are assigned, UZ Gent will organize a "virtual handover. Ingenium converts the building techniques of the design model into an execution model in which all conflicts can be detected and resolved before the works actually start. This avoids unnecessary loss of time and delays on site and guarantees execution deadlines. The BIM protocol drawn up by Ingenium in consultation with Ghent University Hospital ensures that the collaboration in the virtual model runs smoothly and efficiently. The BIM model not only facilitates the design and construction process, but is also a useful tool for the operation of the building. It is the "digital twin brother" of the physical building. The numerous data included in the 3D model come in handy for managing and maintaining the building and its techniques. Moreover, future modifications and function changes can first be tested in the virtual model.

For UZ Gent, this first integral BIM project is a pilot project. Lessons learned will be taken to subsequent projects but the methodology was already evaluated very positively.
