Strategy and energy master plan
For large (and often complex) campuses with diverse buildings and for large industrial consumers, an energy master plan is an absolute added value. This involves developing a long-term vision that maps out phased investments in energy facilities in the short and long term.
Depending on the situation, various partial studies can be made. The Flemish Enterprise Agency provides financial support for this strategic energy advice through the SME portfolio. On the one hand, the studies look at the existing installations and the possibilities to optimize them. On the other hand, they also take into account possible future scenarios that require expansions or adjustments.
Ingenium elaborates these studies based on the principles of Quadras Energetica. This involves first reducing energy requirements by switching off unnecessary processes and avoiding energy losses. Next, energy efficiency in the use of fossil resources is increased and optimized. The integration of renewable energy sources is the third principle. The fourth pillar is to start reusing residual heat released from business processes.
The results of the sub-studies will be compiled into the energy master plan. The advice is linked to a phased implementation path. This allows for timely budgeting of investments and spreading the implementation over time.
Due to the wide variety of possible systems, familiar solutions are often resorted to. Yet choosing a sustainable alternative over the total life cycle of a building can often yield major benefits. A feasibility study with various quantified scenarios for both new construction and renovation makes the choice much easier. Ingenium wants to be a pioneer to stimulate circular building also in the field of technical installations. The challenge is not only to make circular reuse of these systems possible, but also to include the possible changes in function of the building already in the design.
The fact that a beautiful design also performs maximally in terms of energy after the actual realization is not always evident in practice. Therefore, Ingenium takes care of an optimization of the building in the design phase(building physics and dynamic simulations). With simulations in the field of energy, daylight and thermal comfort, solutions are proposed that are aesthetically and energetically effective.
NEN 2767 is finding increasing acceptance in Belgium. The condition of a building is mapped in an objective, detailed and uniform manner by means of a thorough visual inspection. Since early 2018, two Ingenium engineers have been certified as "building inspector" by the Belgian Construction Certification Association (BCCA). This proves their expertise within the framework of the Dutch standard NEN 2767.
