Localization study of peak and backup power plants heat grid Antwerp
City of Antwerp wants to know how to handle (temporary) heat production for their heat network islands, before they are connected to the planned large city heat network. Ingenium is investigating the necessary space for these peak and backup plants and mapping the main boundary conditions for five different scenarios, for the regions of Nieuw-Zuid, Eilandje and Linkeroever.

Localization study of peak and backup power plants heat grid Antwerp
City of Antwerp wants to know how to handle (temporary) heat production for their heat network islands before they are connected to the planned large district heat network.
Ingenium is investigating the necessary space for these peak and backup power plants and mapping the main boundary conditions for five different scenarios, for the New South, Island and Left Bank regions.
Thestudy highlights emission-free peaking and backup plants and their specific role in the development phase of the heat grid, before the final connection to the city-wide grid. Heat buffers are an important building block, with the optimal buffer volume determined based on simulations. After mapping the size of the power plants, Ingenium, together with partners Ramboll (Danish heat grid development study office) and Atelier Horizon (urban planning), is looking for the ideal locations and appropriate economic models to sustainably integrate this heat production into the city. The result of this study is a clear picture for the city council on the best locations for these plants, a clear view of the costs, insight into the impact on the environment and ideal integration of this in the urban fabric.
