For the execution of the technical systems in the research building VIB-UGent - a lab building of about 15,000 m² - Ingenium took on the role of BIM management and execution coordination.

UGent-VIB research building - BIM implementation

For the execution of the technical systems in the research building VIB-UGent - a lab building of about 15,000 m² - Ingenium took on the role of BIM management and execution coordination.

The new building includes a mix of spaces including offices and conference rooms, laboratories and research rooms, L2 and L3 laboratories, greenhouses and plant growth rooms, an animalarium, A3 laboratories and a restaurant. Parking is also located under the building.

The complex nature of these spaces made the coordination exercise to integrate all the techniques an intense and important task, this in view of the supply & installation of the technical installations in the building.

In this assignment, Ingenium took the lead in an intense process in which, together with the various executing parties, the design models were transformed into coordinated execution models. Under the watchful eye of the BIM manager and the site supervisor, periodic clash checks were performed, which formed the input for the contractors' techniques to further elaborate the plans of the various lots into execution plans. Such working method led to optimal risk management during execution, with a positive impact on budget and timing of site progress.The result is a coordinated execution model, which served as the basis for the execution of the works of the technical installations.
