Rehabilitation of St. Bernard abbey in Hemiksem
St. Bernard Abbey in Hemiksem is a former Cistercian abbey founded in the 13th century. The complex consists of buildings from the 17th to 20th centuries and is protected as a monument. Since 1988 the abbey complex has been owned by the municipality of Hemiksem. Certain parts are in use as town hall, service flats. It also houses two museums. Within this project, the complex will be further restored with a view to sustainability and simple and energy-conscious operation.
