Bruges climate plan in the spotlight

Bruges climate plan in the spotlight

Ingenium is collaborating with VITO and Jorn Verbeeck (as expert team) and with the various departments involved of the City of Bruges in drawing up a 2030 climate plan for Bruges.

The climate plan is part of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy. In it, mayors commit to reducing CO2 (and possibly other greenhouse gases) emissions in their municipality's territory by at least 40 percent by 2030. Based on the latest directive from Europe, the bar is set even higher, up to 55 percent reduction by 2030.

These reductions are primarily through mitigation measures focused on fossil-free heating, renewable energy, energy efficiency and mobility.

In addition, climate measures in the areas of circularity and nutrition are also employed. Finally, measures are also defined that work on adapting to the effects of climate change and making the city climate-robust.

The City of Bruges board and departments will continue to organize to roll out the action plan and also want to serve as an example.

As a study and consulting firm headquartered in Bruges, we are delighted to participate in this climate plan. We commit ourselves to applying the measures ourselves in our own buildings and in our mobility choices. Leading by example is self-evident for us.

The Bijloke site in Ghent: Energetic transformation for a sustainable future

The Bijloke site in Ghent, steeped in rich history and diverse architecture, presents a unique challenge in the quest for a sustainable future. The diversity in use, ownership and age of the buildings on the site makes energy optimization and fossil-free heating a complex task. Nevertheless, the City of Ghent and Hogeschool Gent joined forces to draw up a well thought-out plan, with special attention to the historical context and heritage value of the buildings.
