ASTER stands for "Access to Sustainability for Tenants through Energy Effective Retrofit," loosely translated "Access to Sustainability for Tenants through Energy Effective Retrofit.
ASTER is also the name of a cooperative company established with the aim of making the patrimony of social housing companies more sustainable. Based on knowledge and experience, INGENIUM was appointed as an external expert in ASTER's advisory committee.
After a pilot project, ASTER cv will start the largest solar panel project ever in Flanders in September: the installation of solar installations on 50,000 social housing units. This will give 150,000 residents of social housing access to solar energy produced on their own roofs.
- In addition, ASTER cv has started a large-scale rollout for charging infrastructure for social housing. This will make it possible for all layers of society to move sustainably. In addition to attention to charging infrastructure, the reflection is always made towards smart control systems (EMS) that on the one hand maximize renewable energy (car consumption PV) and on the other hand keep grid costs under control.

Ingenium is closely involved in this project, assisting ASTER as a technical advisor on numerous technical issues, both during the design with drafting of specifications, award criteria, negotiations with potential clients, technical advice during the award, the search for suitable personnel for ASTER and during further development. Rebel, with law firm Eubelius as a subcontractor, assisted ASTER in working out a contractual and financial structure for this project. Much attention was paid to the division of responsibilities and risks between the partners in the project. A financing competition was then set up to attract non-recourse project financing at competitive terms. The focus was on working out a clear and unambiguous financing structure that relies on the cash flow of the project and the creditworthiness of the social housing company sector.
