Screening HVAC installation MoMu

Following the renovation project of the Antwerp Fashion Museum (MoMu) in 2018, the HVAC installation was completely renewed. Unfortunately, there turned out to be problems with this new installation, so a screening was appropriate to get the number of failures out as much as possible. The purpose of this screening was to conduct an in-depth analysis of the entire process (tender, installation, delivery, today's situation) and draw up an improvement plan. In addition, a study was also requested to adapt an existing depot space to a depot suitable for plastics.

The main points of analysis and reporting were:

  • Screening of the entire HVAC file (2016-2024), with a focus on air handling. Among other things, steam humidification, filtration and sizing of coils were thoroughly reviewed, as well as specific problems in exhibit and depot areas.
  • Analysis and follow-up of the BMS, to check the proper functioning of the control system. This revealed the causes of years of problems with the climate control system.
  • Identification of energy-saving measures, respecting climate requirements.
  • Study of the current HVAC installation in the plastic depot (inadequate for the desired climate) and work out the possible options to modify the installation.

The main deliverable of the study consisted of a detailed improvement plan: a list of measures to solve the HVAC problems, ranked according to urgency and cost.

After the presentation of the results, the assignment was extended, to assist the MoMu in implementing the improvement project. An important task here was to follow up with the contractor for the scheme: this proved crucial to finally solve the existing problems.
