In Dendermonde, the demolition works of the old Abbey School are about to start. Project developer Uplace will put several residential blocks on the cleared area. Less than half of the total area will be built on. This will ensure that while the site is now a concrete and closed area in the city, there will be more space and greenery.
The old school will be demolished and make way for an apartment complex directly connected to the shopping street. This new site will be named Hof van Saeys.
In addition to the apartment blocks, there will be plenty of room for public space, greenery and water. For example, the watercourse 't Vaardeken will be reopened. Of the 6,600 square meters, only half will be built with 109 apartments. There will also be a walking and cycling street and space for stores and restaurants. As well as a large underground parking lot of 12,000m².
Ingenium is responsible for the design of the technical systems for this project. In terms of sustainability, green roofs and PV panels are provided. Heat recovery from waste water is also proposed.
